Software for basic audio edits

 What do you use to do a basic audio edits?

 I'm not much into the audio area, but sometimes I just need to convert a file into something importable in flash and light enough for web or cut a piece of it to use as an event sound or looping background music.

 At present I'm using Audacity. Simple enough (for a dumb freelancer like me) to manage, does the simple tasks I need and is free. Perhaps there are other and maybe better tools but I just don't know about them.
