Is it fair to try to decompile a piece of software?

Would you do it? When and why?

I hate it, but do it at a times. Especially when I have a client who needs changes, but have lost the sources.

Lost or "lost"  Grin

Some people forget to pay after the project is done and therefore don't get the sources. Assuming of course that the software is not somebody else's property and the client needs someone to steal for him.
